“Down There” Wax Types
A lot of times the terms “Bikini Wax” and “Brazilian” are used interchangeably, and we understand that can get very confusing. At B. Brannigan Aesthetics, here is how we differentiate between our four “down there” options.
Basic Bikini: Quick and to the point! We wax the sides (panty line) and across the top. Basically all the hairs that would normally hang out of a bikini so you are beach ready!!
Full Bikini: We take off as much or as little as you like from the front and sides. You can leave a strip, a triangle, or a square (we will even try a heart, but no promises!); its up to you!
Rio: When you want to go south, but maybe not all the way to Brazil, why not try the Rio?? We remove as little or as much as you like from the front and sides, and includes a butt strip.
Brazilian: We go from the front all the way to the back, including the butt strip. You can go completely nude, or you can leave a triangle, strip, or square – its up to you!
Bare Panty: We get everything that would be covered by a pair of panties or briefs (including the buttocks). Perfect for the “no hair down there!” crowd.
“Why Should I Wax?” There are many benefits to waxing vs. shaving. Here are just a few:
1. Healthier Skin – Did you know waxing is also a physical exfoliation? It removes the dead skin cells from the surface and less dead skin and cleaner pores leads to better looking skin! After a few wax sessions, most clients see a dramatic decrease in the number and severity of ingrown hairs and clogged pores. It is a real game changer for those who suffer from chronic ingrown.
2. Smoother Skin – Unlike shaving, waxing removes hair from the root so there is no nasty stubble left behind!
3. Lasts Longer – When hair is removed by the root, it takes much longer to grow back
4. Thinner and Finer Hair – When it does grow back, you will be shocked and how much thinner and softer the hair is!
5. Less Irritation – shaving and epilation creams can be very irritating to a large percentage of people. However, rarely does this issue occur when waxing is performed by a licensed professional.
“But will it hurt?”
The short answer is “yes… but not as much as you think”.
We are removing hair from the root so there will be a certain level of discomfort involved. However, this is greatly affected by your mindset (the more you expect it to hurt, the worse it does), your general tolerance for discomfort, the overall health of your skin, and how consistent you are with your wax schedule.
There are a few things you can do to help reduce the level of discomfort you will experience:
1. Stay hydrated! – hydrated skin recovers faster and has less irritation. Hair is less brittle and therefore less likely to “break”, which is the cause of most post-wax irritation. Plus… water is the best, least expensive anti-aging product on the market! Drink up!
2. Exfoliate – too much dry skin can make it hard for the wax to adhere to the hair and so more pulls and plucking will be necessary to remove everything. A gentle – nothing too aggressive – exfoliation every time you shower for a few weeks leading up to your wax can make a big difference.
3. Avoid skin irritants like lotions and cleansers with fragrance or artificial colors.
